Beryllium Testing For Workers
About 62,000 workers are currently exposed to beryllium in their workplaces, and OSHA requires that employers make medical surveillance testing available to monitor exposed workers. Worksite Medical® will get you the testing you need to stay compliant.
A standard series of medical surveillance tests is required for each employee that encounters beryllium in all forms in the workplace.
THE STANDARD
OSHA’s new Beryllium standard is in effect for these industries: Construction (29 CFR 1926.1124), General Industry (29 CFR 1910.1024), and Shipyard (1915.1024). According to OSHA, the new standard reduces the permissible exposure limit (PEL) for beryllium to 0.2 micrograms per cubic meter of air, averaged over 8-hours, and establishes a new short term exposure limit of 2.0 micrograms per cubic meter of air over a 15-minute sampling period.
